Tinahely Show has always been known for its innovation and our journey of experience has taken us to the Pembrokeshire County Show at Haverfordwest Show, Withybush, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. As we headed towards the millennium in the year 2000 we decided to twin with the Pembrokeshire County Show and they with us.
1999 was the introductory year for both Committees, as we get to know each other, in a way it will be like a marriage, with the engagement first and the marriage of minds later. We run a similar type of show, with horses, sheep and dog show, poultry, horticulture and extensive baking section. Entertainment for the public is important for both committees and full facilities are available for their comfort.
Haverfordwest run their show over three days on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of August and have a large attendance each day. They are lucky to be able to utilise buildings on their grounds for offices and other sections of the show.
Importantly both shows have aims for the future:
The promotion of international co-operation and ideas for the future.
The social exchange and visits of shoe people from different backgrounds.
The promotion of tourism in Wales and Ireland.
The promotion of Local Home Industry at each others show.
The exchange of Judges for classes.
Tinahely Agricultural Show is very young in its years in comparison to Haverfordwest which is now in its 226th year and we are sure that we can learn from their experience, and perhaps we might even be able to offer some of ours to them.
The Committees of both shows are positive that the twinning is of great benefit and will provide an important link between Ireland and Wales way into the future. Haverfordwest is situated inland ten miles from both Fishguard and Pembroke making transport to and from the ferries very convenient.
We take great pride in welcoming our Welsh friends to Tinahely Show every year and it has been a hugely rewarding experience for both shows.
